He made it! World Record!

After more than 5 years of planning and preparation and numerous delays, Felix Baumgartner finally made his historic (and just slightly insane) jump on Sunday, October 14th, 2012. Baumgartner rode in a specially designed capsule attached to balloon filled with 30 million cubic feet of helium to an altitude of 128,100 feet before opening the door of his capsule and stepping off into freefall. Wearing a specially designed pressure suit, Baumgartner reached a speed of 833.9 mph (Mach 1.24) breaking the sound barrier just 34 seconds into freefall. He remained in freefall for 4 minutes 22 seconds before deploying his parachute to finish his safe and successful decent to earth.
